The Lightning Thief  by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson tries his best at school, but his ADHD and Dyslexia don’t exactly make that easy. Lately being away at his boarding school is getting unbearable. All he wants to do is move back with his mom and get blue candy from her day job. Another new thing is that he could have sworn that his Pre - Algebra teacher turned into a monster. But everyone looks at him like he is crazy. Then he starts to wonder if he is. The wondering doesn’t last long. When his mom finds out about this debacle, she finally tells him why he feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere and where he came from. His mom sends Percy to a summer camp for demigods. The only place where Percy will ever be safe. He also finds out that his is the son of Poseidon, Greek god of the sea, and wished he payed more heed in his Greek Mythology class. The story evolves into mystery once his mother dissolves into mist and Percy, a satyr, and a daughter of Athena, are sent on a mission to the gates of the Underworld to try and prevent a chaotic war between the gods.

‘I love this book! Rick Riordan has crafted a marvelous story that hooks and keeps you in. The main character, Percy Jackson is super relatable in the fact that he really wants to succeed and make his mom proud. It also helps that he is super funny and makes me laugh through the whole book. I highly recommend reading this book.’ - Reader1046
